Seattle man one of two injured in snowy highway crash

As winter conditions pose additional hazards on the roadways, the Washington State Patrol recommends that people slow down, know when to use 4-wheel drive or tire chains, and seek a safe place to pull over when adding chains. Unfortunately, an attempt to add safety chains on the shoulder of Interstate 90 put two young men in the path of danger on December 15.

New campaign to curb texting while driving in Washington

Thanks to a recent public safety campaign featuring Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson, Seattle residents may be increasing their awareness and understanding of the dangers of texting while driving. The likelihood of getting into an accident increases by 24 times when a person tries to send a text message while driving.

Seattle I-5 overpass sees a busy day of car accidents

Given the volume of traffic that courses along Seattle's roads and highways every day, the laws of chance make it possible for an accident to occur anywhere at anytime. According to a spokesman for the Washington State Patrol, the timing and location of any car accident simply turns on a roll of the dice. Even though a string of accidents in one location may arouse superstitions, the State Patrol says that it is really not uncommon for a small section of roadway to be the site of multiple accidents on any given day.

Washington pedestrian hit by car on Pacific Highway

A 55-year-old Edmonds man received treatment at a Seattle-area hospital on Nov. 27 after being hit by a car while crossing the Pacific Highway. According to police, the injured man was not using a marked crosswalk when he stepped into the path of a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old local resident. Fortunately, the pedestrian appears not to have suffered terribly severe injuries, but he did receive treatment for injuries to his right leg.
